Past Trade Dollars
The Bathtub coins/trade dollars have been minted since 1969 and have become very popular every year with their use as a trade dollar during the Marine Festival as well as to collectors. They have always been used as trade dollars during the festival and are officially designated as legal tender (at participating businesses) by the Mayor of the City. On the coin it states that the end of September the coins are no longer legal tender and the Loyal Nanaimo Bathtub Society (LNBS) redeems any left over coins from retailers that have handled them.
As you will see by the following list many of the coins have gone up considerably in value and some are even sold out in the LNBS stock and must be obtained through dealers or through Trade Dollar publications. Following is list of trade dollars available through the LNBS along with their price. Please remember to add postage and handling. 1-2 coins 75 cents, 3-4 coins $1.50.
